New Communities is a grassroots organization that has worked for over 40 years to empower African American families in Southwest Georgia and to advocate for social justice. Born out of the Civil Rights Movement, New Communities was founded in 1969 as a farm collective to provide a safe haven for black farmers, and became one of the original models for community land trusts in the United States.
